About us:
We are Mini Moon Theatre, a company creating new theatrical works for children. We explore complicated topics in fun and accessible ways by focusing on clear narratives and accessible language. As a contemporary company, we want to stay true to the experience of childhood in the 21st century and take children's struggles, aspirations and perspectives seriously while addressing modern issues. Despite the complex topics and feelings discussed in our shows, we prioritise creating fun and exciting theatre-going experiences for our young audiences. Our shows are jam-packed with puppets, original music and lots of fun.
Synopsis:
Join Maddy and her little brother Jack as they journey to Mars, and meet an actual
Martian, called Zom! Except they’re the aliens here... and Maddy and Jack’s relationship
is tested in this unfamiliar environment. What is family loyalty against the promise of
success? How far should you go in the face of failure? How much is a pinky promise
really worth?

In more detail:
In ‘To Mars’, siblings Maddy and Jack grapple with their identity on Earth. In order to
prove herself, and land a job at NASA, Maddy makes rocket boots and takes Jack with
her to Mars. There, she meets an alien named Zom, who informs her that on Mars, the
children are in charge! Maddy is delighted, and despite Jack’s pleas, Maddy decides to
stay on Mars for a little. Jack gets homesick and has a falling out with Maddy, finally
calling her out for her empty promises. Eventually, they get home, with Maddy and Jack
making a club together, combining their experiences on Earth and what they’ve learnt
on Mars. The show has potential for conversations around failure, identity, self-worth,
kindness, inclusion and family.

Don’t just take our word for it!
“‘To Mars’ was engaging, playful and appropriate to your chosen audience. The
integration of theatrical elements (text, acting, set, puppetry, costume, props, light and
sound) was very successful and testament to the holding of your vision and direction of
all the members of your company. The most successful moments in the play were when
all of the detailed theatrical elements were brought together, such as the interaction
between the performers and ‘Rusty’ and the puppet flight sequence.”

- Richard Allen, a theatre maker/drama lecturer in the audience of our first iteration of the show.

We hope to see you there!
